How to Get the Best Deal on Airline Tickets

Airline tickets are items which are increasing in price these days. Perhaps it is due to the fuel increase which is currently being seen throughout the world or other associated reasons. Whatever the reasons, finding a good price on an airline ticket is difficult for many individuals, especially if you happen to be flying to or from remote locations throughout the world. The good news is that there are ways to still find great deals on transportation tickets of this kind and be well on your way to a great vacation or prosperous business trip without traveling broke.

One of the best ways to find a good deal on tickets for airlines is to review the selections and purchase these items online. You can go to the individual airline websites, use travel websites or buy them from others who may be selling their transferable airline ticket. If you are hoping to go on vacation and don't have a set destination in mind, simply peruse your airline destination options and buy those tickets which are least expensive. The Internet provides wonderful avenues for not only searching for desired airline tickets but purchasing them at discounted prices as well.

Another way to get a great deal on an airline ticket is to take advantage of sale fares offered by the airlines themselves. Many airlines will advertise special destination prices for specific time periods. These specials can reap wonderful prices on tickets for your air travel. You may find it advantageous to sign up for web deals via email through one or more airline carrier as this will allow you to get information on special deals delivered directly to your email address. If you want to go on vacation but don't know where to go, these deals offered by the airlines may help you to decide which location to visit.

An additional way to get good airfare prices is to use your airline miles whenever possible. If you are planning a trip ahead of time search for the best credit card that will offer you the best way to quickly gain these miles. For those who travel quite a bit, using airline travel miles will help to lower the cost of your tickets if not get you a completely free airline ticket. You may also be able to use extra airline miles for food, drinks and access to VIP lounges in various airports in addition to getting a discounted airline ticket or free upgrade from coach to first class.

Lastly, airline deals can be had by purchasing more than one airline ticket. Sometimes airlines will offer companion fares where you purchase one ticket at full advertised price and then get a second one for free or half the price. Either way you are saving money if more than one individual is traveling at the same time. Again, this information can be gained by visiting the airline's website or calling the airline directly to see what type of deals is being offered on airline tickets.

Quick Way To Save Money On Southwest Airline Flights

Due to unexpected circumstances, I have to fly to Los Angeles the next day. I am by no means a frequent business traveler. I have always used Southwest Airline to travel from Northern California to Southern California because of their prices. So I go to Southwest website to check their list of available flights, and I was shocked to find out that each flight is priced $124. The total for the roundtrip including taxes and fees is a whopping $269. What happened to their often advertised $49 one-way fare? Apparently, those low fares must be booked certain days in advance (usually 14 days). I also searched other sites such as Orbitz, Travelocity, Expedia, everything except Priceline.

Finally, I gave up looking and decided to pay $269 for the Southwest flight. I was going through the checkout process then I saw a section called "Apply Travel Funds". After a little bit of research on Southwest website, I learned that you can apply credits from previous unused ticket on your next reservation. Then it hits me, there must be people out there who might be willing to sell these credits at reduced prices before they expire. But where would I find these people? A quick goolge of "southwest travel fund" returns two obvious places: Ebay and Craiglist.

The first place I tried is Ebay. Do a search on "Southwest credit" and BINGO! There are several auctions where people are selling their expiring credits at discounted prices. After a quick scan, I picked up one auction where the original credit amount is $250, but the seller is selling it for $200 Buy-It-Now. That's a 20% saving! Like every careful ebay user, I verified the seller's feedbacks and past auctions. I made sure that there are no other hidden charges. In this case, there is no shipping fee since the delivery method is by email. The only information you need from the seller is the flight confirmation number and the name entered in the payment information section of the original reservation.

So I paid the seller via Payal (credit card funded) and send a message to seller letting them know that I am waiting for the name and confirmation number. About 1 hour later, I received an email from the seller with the information I needed. So, I head back to Southwest website and proceed to purchase the flight I had picked earlier. I entered the information provided by the seller and clicked "Apply Ticketless Travel Fund" button. Bam! $250 is taken off from my total amount, and now I only have to pay another $19 to complete the transaction. So, the final price I paid is $219 for tickets originally priced at $269. A saving of $50 for maybe 15 minutes of work.

Just to follow up, I also checked out Craigslist and found several people selling the same thing. However, I opt to go with ebay because it was easier to check the references of the seller on ebay. Also not everyone was willing to accept Paypal on Craigslist. My only choice was to meet up with the seller and pay in cash, something that I am not excited in doing.

International Health Insurance Plans - Why Should They Be Top of Your Going Overseas List?

Having taken the decision to take up residence in another country, one major factor towards your financial peace of mind is the undertaking of international health insurance coverage. For some expatriates, qualification for a local government health plan may be possible. However, bear in mind that in many smaller and less-stable countries, any government plan coverage is going to be minimal or completely unsuitable to your needs. You may also find that a government health insurance plan is not going to be available to you once you leave that country.

Fortunately, many companies are able to offer international health insurance coverage for expatriates with the most basic of these plans including cover for hospital stays, which may also include fees for physician and consultants, surgeons and anesthesiologists. Even some prescription medication is covered by these basic plans.

Some comprehensive international health insurance plans can be compared favorably to domestic health plans. Consultant sessions, visits to the outpatient department, therapists, and even emergency dentistry are included. It is also not uncommon to find the use of specialists such as radiologists, pathologists, and oncologists being covered, as well as any charges incurred by the use of ambulances.

There are even more extensive coverage options for international health insurance. Whilst the premiums will be higher, the covered benefits are more extensive. Some of the benefits that can be taken include chiropractor consultations, organ transplants, rehabilitation, and psychiatry. As well, diagnostic services such as x-rays, magnetic resonance imaging scans, and other lab work can be included.

Many international health insurance plans will include basic emergency travel medical coverage and evacuation coverage. For an additional fee, most international health plans can provide the costs of use of a top of the range medical facility anywhere in the world, including the transport costs, and then a discounted fare to return to your home country after you've recovered from illness.

Not everyone, however, can be covered by an international health insurance plan. Some companies will refuse to cover you if your job is considered as hazardous or dangerous or involves you working in hazardous areas, while others will cover you at a very high premium. Pre-existing conditions aren't usually covered either, whether the condition was known or not. However, some companies might cover a pre-existing condition for an additional premium. A lot of international health insurance plans don't provide cover for childbirth or pregnancy, while others will cover it for an added premium.

The cost of a comprehensive international health insurance plan is usually about twice the price of a basic plan. You can either choose to have the full 100% of your expenses covered, but to save money on premiums, you could choose to have the international health insurance plan cover up to 80% of the expenses while you cover the rest. You can also save money on the premium by paying a deductible. Before making a final decision on any international health insurance plan, be aware that age, and even gender will have a bearing on the insurance plan premiums.

A top-notch International health insurance plan doesn't need to be expensive. Getting hold of the right health insurance policy is a must. Visit http://www.affordablehealthinsuranceproviders.com TODAY for some important advice regarding health insurance plans and quotes.

Cheap Flight Tips to Reduce Your Airfare Today

Here are 15 quick tips to help you find that cheap flight and lower the cost of your next airline ticket.

Flexibility is the key

Be flexible with your potential flight dates and always plan ahead of time. Air ticket prices are highly dynamic and depend on demand, supply and competition.

Know your market!

For the route you want to fly monitor the airfares for a while and try to find out the lowest published fare. Don't accept the very first fare you find.

Fly off-season

Fly during 'off-peak' or 'shoulder' seasons. Do not fly during the peak time of year. (If you do make sure you book well in advance!)

Fly midweek

Flights that depart during the midweek (Tuesday to Thursday) tend to be cheaper from less demand. Avoid Friday and Sunday evenings and Monday morning.

Hit the red-eye

Very early morning or late evening flights are less busy - and can sometimes be cheaper than flights in the middle of the day. Peak hours when flights are at their fullest are 8 to 11am and 4 to 7pm. Good deals can be found on 'red-eye' overnight flights which people like to avoid.

Holiday periods

Fly on a major holiday when demand plummets - there can be some incredible deals available. Avoid flying just before and after the holidays when people are travelling back home.

Check ticket restrictions

Beware the infamous Saturday night stay restriction - some airlines still have this. Check your carrier's terms and conditions.

Stay less than a month

Many fare tariffs have a 30 day maximum stay restriction. In other words if you stay longer than 30 days the ticket will be more costly.

Circumnavigate

Flying long-haul in business class or first class? Always get a quote on a round the world ticket and compare prices. Round-the-world business class and first class airfares are often cheaper than a full fare return trip - and you will get many more exciting stopovers for free.

Take a detour

Flights with a change of plane at a connecting airport are usually cheaper than non-stop flights. You pay less for the inconvenience.

Hub it!

If flying long-haul into Europe it may be cheaper to fly into a budget hub like London for 2 reasons. The first is that flights to London are often cheaper than flights travelling to other destinations on the continent. Secondly, London is a hub for a myriad of budget airlines (low-cost discount carriers) which have extensive networks all over Europe. The main two are Ryanair and Easyjet and using them can save you hundreds of dollars while allowing a high degree of flexibility in terms of one-way flights.

Check the code

If your flight is 'code shared' then check the price of the same flight with different alliance partners. There can often be considerable price differences between airlines. Taking the One World alliance as an example, you should check the price of the same flight with both American Airlines and British Airways.

Get on the list

Sign up to the newsletters of your favourite airlines and travel sites. You will be the first to see any special offers and deals.

Go Budget Long-Haul

Price up your flight with one of the new generation of budget long-haul carriers. Oasis Hong Kong Airlines flies from Hong Kong to both London and Vancouver. Air Asia X flies from Kuala Lumpur to Gold Coast in Australia with big plans to widen its route network worldwide.

Invest in yourself
